With two such similar names it was very easy to confuse these two towns in our planning. Puerto Natales was the gateway to Torres del Paine National Park and was full of tourists with backpacks. It also had some great restaurants.

Punta Arenas was much bigger, a three hour bus ride south of Puerto Natales. It too had a fine selection of food, including divine seafood (king crab, yum!) and the best coffee we've had since leaving New Zealand.
It also has a most beautiful cemetery...
